It's been a little while since I posted - work and Birthdays got in the way a bit!

I'm 1/3rd of the way through a painting of King Thranduil, the King of the Woodland realm, from the Hobbit.

I've also started my interpretation of the Mirrormere, the lake beyond Moria that reflects stars even at mid-day.

Gandalf Finished

46x28cm
15" x 11"
In Acrylic.

All done. The wrinkles and beard were a challenge, but they didn't actually take too long. I'm pleased with the staff, it looks fairly wood-like!

Next up - Gandalf

Seeing how much better than expected my last portrait turned out, I've now started to paint one of Gandalf. It's going a bit easier now I've had a bit of practice with skin tones and eyes, so might get it finished by the weekend.

The last time I tried to paint a person I was in school, and the portrait ended up looking pretty freaky, so I'm really happy that I can paint people that look like people - with a lot of work and patience!

Update:

Thought I'd post an in-progress photo.

Aragorn

46x28cm
15" x 11"
In Acrylic.

I finally finished it! Took a few goes to get the right expression. It brings out a bit more of his rugged, ranger side, perhaps.
